The humidity in a room largely determines how pleasant it is to be in it. Air that is too dry is not pleasant and can lead to such klante as sore throats, irritated eyes, headaches and damage to furniture. High humidity can cause stuffiness, allergies and fatigue, but it can also lead to condensation and mold.

Because warmer air can contain more moisture than cold air, we often measure relative humidity. Relative humidity (%RV) indicates the percentage of moisture the air contains relative to what it can contain at its maximum at the current temperature. So a relative humidity measurement, also always measures the current temperature. The absolute humidity, i.e. the exact amount of water vapor in grams per m3, can then be calculated.
